WEST POINT, N.Y. – Junior wide receiver Tom Jeffers became the fifth Black Knight of 2012 to earn College Sprint Football League weekly honors after being named Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Jeffers totaled 204 yards in Army’s 35-7 win at Penn Saturday night to help the Black Knights remain perfect this season at 5-0.
Jeffers shined on both offense and special teams, recording nine catches for 98 yards and one touchdown, while returning two punts for 106 yards. The Batesville, Ind., native’s punt-return total was a career high, while the 204 all-purpose yards were the second most during his three-year career at West Point. He has eclipsed the 200-yard mark on two occasions, the other occurring against Post on Oct. 21, 2011, when Jeffers amassed 220 receiving yards.
Through five games, Jeffers leads the Black Knights with 42 receptions and lists second on the squad with five receiving touchdowns and a 93.8 yards per game average. He has returned 10 punts for a total of 186 yards for an 18.6 yards per return average.
Jeffers joins seniors Javier Sustaita (Week 2; Offensive), Noah Currie (Week 2; Defensive), Cody Nyp (Week 3; Offensive) and Kevin Scruggs (Week 4; Special Teams) as Army’s CSFL weekly honorees this season.
The Black Knights will play their final home game of the season on Saturday when they host winless Princeton (0-5, 0-4 CSFL) at 1 p.m. Army will recognize its 17-man senior class prior to the start of the game.
