The Army men’s soccer team, which is off to its best start since 1991, will welcome Houston Baptist to Clinton Field on Sunday, September 22. The game will begin at 1 p.m. and will mark the first contest between the Black Knights and the Huskies.

Army (5-0-1) is led offensively by freshmen forwards Ethan Spivack and Nick Williams (two goals apiece), while junior back Sean Mogan and sophomore midfielder Nick Baietti each have a goal and an assist. Senior midfielder Jason Lewis, sophomore midfielder Joseph Chabries and freshman back Trase Stapley have all scored once this season, and junior goalkeeper Winston Boldt has 22 saves and six shutouts through six starts. The Black Knights currently stand as the only team in the nation to have not yet surrendered a goal, and are ranked ninth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll.
Boldt has earned a pair of Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week nods this season, while Spivack and Williams have each been named the league’s Rookie of the Week once.
Houston Baptist (3-2-0), which competes in the Western Athletic Conference, will play its second match in three days on Sunday, as it defeated LIU Brooklyn, 2-1, on Friday. The Huskies are paced by freshman forward Tobenna Uzo (5 goals), while junior midfielder Gustavo Alvarado adds one goal and an assist. Sophomore goalie George Kelley has posted a 1.66 goals against average through five starts.
Following Sunday, the Black Knights will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell in their Patriot League opener set for Saturday, Sept. 28. Army earned a 2-1 victory over Bucknell in last season’s contest.
