WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army men's soccer team will begin working towards the 2014 regular season, when it kicks off its spring campaign later this month. Russell Payne, who will begin his fifth season as head coach of the Black Knights, unveiled the team's spring slate on Thursday.
"We're playing a number of teams that have been to the NCAA Tournament over the last two seasons in Fairleigh Dickinson and Stony Brook, as well as very strong Albany, Hartford, Iona and Siena teams that are all on top of their conferences," Payne said. "These games will give us a great opportunity to test ourselves during the spring season and prepare ourselves for a competitive fall."
Army begins its spring schedule on Sunday, March 29 with match-ups against Rider and Fairleigh Dickinson on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. The Black Knights will then play contests at Stony Brook (April 5) and Albany (4/13) before hosting three-straight matches at West Point's Clinton Field.
On April 26, Army will play at home for the first time since last fall, when it faces Siena (12 p.m.) and Hartford (4 p.m.) The Black Knights next take on Iona on May 2 before wrapping up the spring season with their annual Alumni Game on May 3.
Army recorded one of the best seasons in program history in 2013, finishing 12-3-3 overall and 6-2-1 in the Patriot League. The Black Knights placed second in the regular season standings and advanced to the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 1996.
