HAMILTON, N.Y. - Playing in their final Patriot League Tournament, seniors Conor Hayes and Derek Sipperlymade their way onto the All-Tournament Team after each turned in a standout performance in Friday night's semifinal setback against eventual champion Lehigh on CBS Sports Network.
Comprised of 12 members, Sipperly and Hayes joined two players from Bucknell, three from runner-up Colgate and four from tournament champion Lehigh.
Sipperly continued his stellar play in the "x," winning 18-of-24 face-offs against three different Mountain Hawks. A native of Greenwich, N.Y., he has taken all but two face-offs since Patriot League play began and gone 97-of-146 for a 66.4 win percentage.
A second team All-Patriot League pick this spring, Sipperly leads the league with a 58.7 win percentage for the season. His 93 ground balls lead the team. Sipperly led all players with 11 ground balls in Friday night's semifinal contest. He averages over six ground balls a game and ranks in the nation's top 10.
Hayes put up a team-high four points (2G, 2A) against the Mountain Hawks, a season-best during Patriot League play for the senior. Four points was two off his career-high, while two assists matched a season-high for a fourth time.
A native of Wilmington, Del., Hayes assisted on Army's first goal of the game and scored the Black Knights' second goal himself with 18 seconds left in the first quarter. He later assisted on Army's lone man-up goal of the night. Hayes' second goal of the game came courtesy of a Sipperly assist with under five minutes to go in the game.
The Black Knights close out the regular season with a Saturday afternoon contest at No. 10/8 Johns Hopkins. Face-off at Homewood Field is set for 2 p.m. on ESPNU.
