CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Army junior attackman John Glesener tallied a season-high five goals and finished with a game-high six points in the Black Knights' lone contest last week and earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday as a result. Glesener is the first Army player to earn a conference weekly award in 2014.
Glesener's game-best five goals in an 11-6 victory over Bucknell propelled Army (6-3, 4-1) to its fourth Patriot League win of the season on Saturday. The Preseason Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year added one assist for six points, leaving him one tally shy of a season high. Glesener scored four goals during the Black Knights' decisive 6-1 run, spanning the third and fourth quarters, to seal the team's second-straight win.
A native of Camillus, N.Y., Glesener leads the team with 24 goals and 33 points (nine assists). His 2.67 goals-per-game average rank second in the Patriot League and 20th in the NCAA.
After winning 14-of-18 face-offs, tallying an assist and 10 ground balls, sophomore middie Alex Daly collected Patriot League honorable mention status for the second-straight week on Monday.
Glesener and Daly both played key roles in Army jumping into the top 20 of both national polls on Monday as well. The Black Knights came in at No. 18 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Poll and broke into the Warrior Media Poll for the first time this season at No. 20.
Looking to extend its win streak to three games, Army visits Patriot League newcomer Boston University this Saturday, April 5.
