WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the 10th consecutive year, the Army hockey team will appear on national television and during the 2012-13 season, it can be as many as four times.
CBS Sports Network announced that the Black Knights’ games against Air Force and Robert Morris will be carried live as part of the Atlantic Hockey Association package.
In addition, Army will appear on the NBC Sports Network when it opens the season at the Ice Breaker.
Army’s game against Robert Morris at Tate Rink on Jan. 4, 2013, will be shifted to 7:30 p.m. to accommodate the CBS Sports Network broadcast, while the Jan. 12 contest at Air Force will be moved to 6 p.m. Eastern as Army continues its long tradition of playing on national television. Last season, CBS Sports Network carried the Air Force at Army game from Tate Rink.
“We are very excited about having CBS Sports Network broadcast our games with Robert Morris and Air Force,” said Army hockey head coach Brian Riley. “It’s a wonderful opportunity not only for both teams but it's also great exposure for our League. I'm sure that it will be a fantastic atmosphere here at Tate Rink which will help add to what I'm sure will be an excellent college hockey game.
“We are also looking forward to playing Air Force on national TV. It's a game that is played with a passion and intensity that is hard to match in college hockey. This rivalry is one of the best in all of college sports. I expect that it will be a hard-fought game not only for the people who will be in the stands to watch but it will also be great for people around the country to view on national TV.”
Army will begin its season Oct. 12 at the Ice Breaker Tournament at Kansas City’s Sprint Center. The Black Knights will play Nebraska-Omaha at 10 p.m. Eastern and NBC Sports Network will carry the game. Depending on the NHL lockout, the game will be live or tape-delayed. NBC Sports Network will also broadcast the championship game Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern as part of its 24-game package.
