HAVERHILL, Mass. -
Army goals leader C.J. Reuschlein landed one of six spots on the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Rookie Team, it was announced Thursday morning. The rookie forward is the fifth Black Knight to make the all-rookie team.
A native of Flint, Mich., Reuschlein joins Joe Kozlak (2013), Marcel Alvarez (2009), Owen Meyer (2007) and Tim Manthey (2006), all of whom picked up all-rookie plaudits.
Reuschlein leads Army and is tied for the most goals by an AHA rookie this season with 11 on the year. All but one of his goals have come against a conference opponent. He ties Kozlak with a team-high 19 points for the season.
A former AHA Travel Team Rookie of the Week, Reuschlein needs just one more point to become the first Army player since Meyer in 2010 to reach the 20-point plateau as a rookie. Meyer totaled 29 points in 2006-07.
Reuschlein has authored two multiple-point games, including a career-best three points on a goal and two assists at Bentley on Feb. 15. He has played in all but one contest and recorded single goals in 11 different games this season.
Also making the AHA All-Rookie list were forward Justin Danforth (Sacred Heart), David Norris (American International), Vince Muto (Niagara), Mitch Nylen (Sacred Heart) and Chris Truehl (Air Force). Three remaining all-league teams (first, second, third) will be announced next Thursday, March 13, in advance of quarterfinal playoff games.
An opportunistic Army team heads to fifth-seeded Robert Morris for the opening round of the AHA playoffs. The 12th-seeded Black Knights have won two of their last four games and are looking to avenge a pair of regular-season setbacks to the Colonials.
The best-of-three series gets underway tomorrow, March 7, and follows with games on Saturday and Sunday (if necessary), respectively. Puck-drop for all three contests is slated for 7:05 p.m. at 84 Lumber Arena.
