WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army hockey team will open the 2012-13 Atlantic Hockey Association playoffs in Erie, Pa., against Mercyhurst.
Army is the 11th-seed in the playoffs and will be on the road against the sixth-seeded Lakers at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The best-of-three series will begin Friday at 7:05 p.m.
The top four teams in the AHA received first round byes, while the fifth through eighth seeds earned the right to host a series.
In the other first round series', RIT will host American International, Bentley travels to Canisius and Sacred Heart is at Robert Morris.
Niagara claimed the regular-season championship and is the No. 1 seed, followed by Air Force, Holy Cross and Connecticut.
Following this weekend's play, the teams will be re-seeded with the four teams who had byes hosting a best-of-three quarterfinal series beginning March 15.
Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y., with host semifinal games on March 22 with the championship game the next night. The winner of the tournament earns the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Army played at Mercyhurst Feb. 1 and 2 with Army earning a tie after a Lakers victory.
