Alvarez Named AAA Athlete Of The Week

Jan. 27, 2014

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Junior defenseman Maurice Alvarez scored twice in a 5-2 victory at Canadian rival Royal Military College on Saturday night, which led to his first career Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week citation.

The Cleveland, Ohio, native got the Black Knights on the board early in the second period and added a second goal midway through the third for a game-high two goals. Alvarez registered a hat trick in a road win at American International earlier this season and now owns three career multiple point games.

Alvarez, who played two years of junior hockey for Canada's Pembroke Lumberkings, is the first hockey player to be honored with AAA weekly accolades since classmate Rob Tadazak on Jan. 7, 2013.

Army's 5-2 exhibition nvictory at RMC gave it a 42-29-7 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1923. The Black Knights retained the Challenge Cup for a third year in a row.
