PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Matt Lorito scored three goals, all on special teams, to lift Brown to a 3-0 victory over Army, Saturday in a non-conference game at Meehan Auditorium.
Lorito netted two power play goals and added a short-handed goal to ruin the return of Army hockey coach Brian Riley.
Riley, a 1983 Brown graduate served as co-captain during his distinguished career but saw the Black Knights fall to 3-6-1 overall.
Brown improved to 2-3-2 this season by scoring once in the first period and then putting the game away with two goals in the final period.
Army goalie Ryan Leets, who entered Friday's 3-2 win over Sacred Heart midway through the contest, turned away 27 shots.
The Black Knights, coming off an emotional Atlantic Hockey Association win the night before, made the long day trip to Providence, R.I., and out-shot the Bears in the third period but suffered the loss.
Army collected 10 shots in the final period and had seven power play opportunities, though the Bears' special teams play was the difference.
Lorito posted his first goal of the game, and fourth of the season, on the power play five minutes into the game.
The score remained 1-0 Brown until the third period when Lorito struck twice within a minute. He scored his second power play goal at 6:25 and then capped the scoring at the 7:43 mark with a short-handed goal, the first short-handed goal Army has allowed this season.
Army will be idle until traveling to Bentley on Thursday, Nov. 29 for an Atlantic Hockey Association game at the John A. Ryan Skating Arena. The Black Knights' next home game is Dec. 1 against AIC at Tate Rink. For tickets, visit www.goARMYsports.com or call 1-877-TIX-ARMY.
