MILFORD, Conn. - Sacred Heart scored three second-period goals and held on to beat Army, 5-3, Friday night in an Atlantic Hockey Association contest at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

The Pioneers scored twice on the power play in the pivotal second period and improved to 4-26-3 overall and 3-30-4 in league games.

Army received goals from Zak Zaremba, Kyle Maggard and Mark Dube but fell to 4-20-7 overall and 3-18-5 in league contests.

Danny Colvin and Mike Hull each had a pair of assists while Andy Starczewski also collected an assist for the Black Knights while Ryan Leets made20 saves. Sacred Heart goalie Andrew Bodnarchuk was credited with 24 saves.

Army opened the scoring 67 seconds into the contest. Zaremba took a pass from Colvin and grazed the post on the way to his fourth goal of the season. Colvin was credited with his 12th assist of the year as Army took a 1-0 lead with the clock showing 18:53. Starczewski started the play and earned his ninth assist and increased his season point total to 20.

Sacred Heart tied the game three minutes later as Eric Delong collected his sixth goal of the season off of a nice pass from Ryan Miniaci with 15:51 remaining in the first period.

Leets made a great save on a breakaway a few minutes later than then Sacred Heart took its first lead of the game as Matt Gingera poked a shot in for his 12th goal of the season with two minutes left in the first period.

The Pioneers added to their lead with a power play tally at the 14:54 mark of the second period as Jared Eng recorded his first goal of the season.

Sacred Heart posted its second power play goal of the period midway through the stanza as Drew George blasted in his 13th goal of the season for a 4-1 lead.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 5-1 with five minutes left in the second period when Ben Ketchum notched his eighth goal of the season.

Maggard stopped the stretch of five straight Sacred Heart goals and cut the Army deficit to three with his fifth goal of the season. Colvin passed it to Hull in the Sacred Heart end and then fed Maggard. It marked Hull's 15th assist and the 13th for Colvin.

Army had a 5-on-3 opportunity to open the final period but failed to capitalize.

The Black Knights were plugging offensively and were rewarded when Dube picked up sixth of the season, knocking home an assist from Hull. It was Hull's 16th assist of the season.

Army had an extra attacker for 1:42 but could not get any closer.
