ERIE, Pa. - David Wrigley notched a goal and an assist, and Scott Champagne registered three helpers as Mercyhurst completed a weekend sweep of Army with a 4-0 shutout Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Mercyhurst drew first blood when T.J. Kemp scored on the power play at 6:27 of the opening period. Champagne carried the puck into the zone and fed Kemp who was standing right on the doorstep in the slot.
Jamie Hunt doubled the hosts' lead 5:29 into the middle frame when his shot deflected off somebody in front and past Army goalie Treye Kettwick.
Wrigley then scored his first of the game and fourth of the weekend at 15:39, with two Black Knights in the penalty box, that put the Lakers up 3-0 at the end of two periods of play.
Kyle Gourgon added an insurance tally on the power play with 51 seconds left in the game.
Kettwick made 20 saves in his first action since Jan. 21. Franck picked up his second win in as many nights opposite Army, making 22 saves to record his third shutout of the season.
Chris Garceau saw his four-game point streak come to an end in the shutout.
Wrigley finished the weekend with four goals and two assists for Mercyhurst. Champagne registered seven assists in the two-game series.
The Black Knights return to Tate Rink Friday, Feb. 18 for the first of a four-game homestand. Army welcomes Bentley for two games next weekend before facing off against American International College twice the following weekend.
