Army freshman Jesse Glenn earned a pair of weekly honors with his selection as the College Gymnastics Association Collegiate Division National Gymnast of the Week as well as the ECAC Rookie of the Week following his performance as an all-arounder in the Black Knights' meet with Air Force last Saturday.
Glenn is just the fourth Black Knight selected. It is the second consecutive week an Army gymnast was chosen for national and ECAC honors, joining teammate Garrek Hojan-Clark (pommel horse) .
The freshman from Northridge, Calif., recorded his second consecutive all-around individual title with a season-best score of 84.85 against Air Force. He placed in the top three in five of the six events. Glenn captured medalist honors on high bar (14.45), placed second on floor exercise (14.6) and vault (14.7), and took third on still rings (14.1) and parallel bars (14.2). He set season highs in all but one of those events.
In the latest GymInfo coaches poll, Glenn lists No. 8 nationally in all-around with an 83.70 average and is ranked in the top 50 in five events. He is 11th on vault (14.725), 34th on parallel bars (13.975), 37th on still rings (14.025), 41st on high bar (13.875) and 42nd on floor exercise (14.2).
The Black Knights turned in a season high in their 414.20-408.10 loss to Air Force, and are currently ranked 14th nationally with a 406.125 average. Army will be idle this week before returning to competition hosting the annual West Point Open Feb. 1st and 2nd. The Black Knights finished third the past two years and will be looking to challenge for the title among a field that includes Navy, Temple, Springfield, William & Mary, along with club teams Arizona State and Brockport.
