WEST POINT, N.Y. - Thirteenth-ranked Army headed into the final event trailing Air Force by just 1.25 points, but the ninth-ranked Falcons outscored the Black Knights 68.85-68.3 on high bar to escape with a 417.85-416.05 decision at Gross Sports Center Friday evening.

"We did well tonight," said Army head coach Doug Van Everen. "I knew heading into the meet that we would have to be 100 percent in our routines as Air Force had more difficulty. We had a couple of costly mistakes, one on pommel horse and two on high bar, that made the difference in the meet, but the team fought hard throughout."

The loss was Army's seventh straight in the series, but the closest meet since a 331.35-331.30 defeat to Air Force at the start of the Falcons run in 2008. Air Force came into the meeting averaging 427.45 team score. The Black Knights outpointed Air Force in floor exercise 71.15-69.15) and vault (73.45-71.9) and both tied on parallel bars (69.0-69.0).

Sophomore Jesse Glenn was the all-around winner (83.1) and tied with teammate Kip Webber, along with Air Force's Denis Aurelius, for first-place honors on floor exercise (14.3). Glenn tied for second on vault (14.85) with two Black Knights and was fourth on still rings (14.35). Webber was runner-up on still rings (14.9) and tied for that spot on vault (14.85).

Junior Connor Venrick was the individual winner on pommel horse (14.15) and sophomore Chris Shorttook first on parallel bars earning a 14.4 which is just shy of his season best (14.5).

Junior Jeremy Cahillrecorded a career-high 14.85 on vault that earned him a share of second-place honors with Glenn and Webber.

Freshman Leo Genders was third on vault (14.15) and classmates Sam Kusnitz and Joe Pritts were fourth on high bar (14.05) and floor exercise (14.25), respectively, with junior Mike Tserkovnyuk placing fifth on pommel horse (13.2).

Army (0-2) heads to Springfield, Mass., Sunday to take on the No. 15 Pride at 1 p.m. in an Eastern College Athletic Conference match.
