Diary Entries

April 5, 2005

I am writing this week's journal as we drive back from Maryland. We have a 5-hour ride, so I have plenty of time to write. CPT Crandall is driving our van, and he's keeping me awake while making sure that I finish this week's diary. He is dying to read it. Even if I did try to sleep, Scott Manley's snoring would keep me awake.

We played this past weekend at Towson's home tournament. Once again, the Army Golf Team experienced the East Coast's wrath of bad weather. It did not stop raining on Saturday. After the round, we spent most of our off time that night trying to dry out. The weather Saturday was one of the worst that I have ever experienced on a golf course. It was windy, rainy and cold. We were scheduled to play 36 holes on Saturday, but the bad weather prevented that from happening. Any other tournament might have been cancelled, but they wanted us to get in at least 18 holes on Saturday and another 18 on Sunday so that it would be considered an official tournament. We all struggled, as the numbers would show, but we put up a decent number despite the bad weather.

Sunday's weather was a little better. It did not rain, but the course was still soaked from the previous day. In addition, the wind was still blowing up to 30 miles per hour making good scoring very tough.

Next weekend we have another much-deserved week off before we head to Firestone Country Club for the University of Akron's Spring Tournament. We are all really looking forward to it as Firestone has hosted many big tournaments and is always rated as one of the best country clubs in the country. It should be a fun weekend.
