WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army golf team will make its 2013-14 debut this weekend when it tees off at the Colgate Invitational presented by Steelberry. The Black Knights will play Seven Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton, N.Y.
Army’s five-man team will consist of sophomore Marcus Plunkett, last year’s Patriot League Rookie of the Year, senior Harrison Florence, junior Robby Hill, sophomore Eric Peng and freshman Justin Pagila.
“We’re looking forward to getting the season started,” head coach Brian Watts said. “The guys have worked very hard over the summer, and we think it will pay off this weekend. Qualifying was very competitive, which is always a good thing, and we are hoping to take that competitive edge into our first tournament.”
The two-day event will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and another 18 holes on Sunday. Seven Oaks, designed by Robert Trent Jones, is a par-72 course that plays at 6,950 yards. The front nine opened in 1958, while the second nine was completed in 1965. The course hosted the 1977 NCAA Championship.
In addition to host Colgate and Army, the other teams participating in the tournament include Binghamton, Bucknell, Cardinal Stritch, Fordham, Lafayette, Lehigh, Niagara, Rider, St. Bonaventure, Siena, Wagner and Youngstown State.
