WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army senior William Park will compete as an individual at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at the U-M Golf Course, it was announced by the NCAA on Monday.
Park won the Patriot League Championship April 29 and earned the right to compete as an individual at NCAA Regionals.
During an on-line selection show, Park learned he is one of 10 individuals playing in Michigan along with 13 teams.
The 54-hole NCAA Ann Arbor Regionals will be held May 17-19 at the par-71, 6,723-yard layout. The low five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team will move on to the NCAA Finals at Rivera Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif. The NCAA Finals are comprised of the low 30 teams and six individuals not on qualifying teams from six regional sites.
Park, who posted Army's low score when the team competed in the NCAA Tucson Regional a year ago, will see some familiar faces during his second NCAA appearance.
North Carolina State, which hosted a tournament featuring Army and Patriot League champion Navy were also assigned to the region, along with USC, Oregon, Kent State, Virginia, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kennesaw State, Texas Christian University, Purdue, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
In addition to Park, the individuals in the Ann Arbor Regional include Peter Williamson, Dartmouth; Matt Thompson, Michigan; Sebastian MaClean, Xavier; Erik Van Rooyen, Minnesota; Dan Ellis, Michigan State; Tyler Merkel, Ball State; Charlie Bill, Akron; Chad Ebert, Green Bay and Greg Matthias, Delaware.
Park will work with the U.S. Military Academy to adjust his Term-Ending-Exam schedule and then play a practice round at U-M Golf Course on Wednesday, May 16.
The competition gets underway Thursday and features 18 holes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
