Golfers In Second Place At Patriot League Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Rain showers throughout the day finally took their toll on the 2006 Patriot League Golf Championship at the Naval Academy Golf Course as play was called in the middle of the second round. Players in the seven-team tournament are left with anywhere between four and 12 holes remaining in the second round of a 54-hole tournament.

After 18 holes, the Army golf team sits second with a score of 303, trailing Bucknell by only four strokes. The Bison paced the field with a 299, led by Charles Waddell, who was the only golfer to shoot under par in the first round with a 69. Navy and Holy Cross are in a tie for third with a total of 310.

Four Army golfers rank in the top 10 in the individual competition. The top Black Knight finishers were Jimmy Fisher and Joey Cave, who are tied for third with Lehigh's Jason Moloney at 75.

Austin Luher is tied for sixth with an opening round score of 76, while Patrick Beverly sits in a six-way tie for eighth with a score of 77. After shooting a 40 on the front nine, Beverly came back with a one-over 37 on the back nine.

Sam Walenz is tied for 27th after shooting an 81 and Adam Renfroe rounds out the Black Knight contingent with a score of 86.

The second round is set to resume Sunday at 9 a.m. and the final round is estimated to begin at 1 p.m.
