SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Wes Carver finished fourth to lead a contingent of Army golfers at the Palamoutain Invitational, at two different courses Sunday and Monday.
Army’s five golfers all competed as individuals in the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Nationally ranked Skidmore won the event. Golfers competed at the Saratoga National Golf Club on Sunday and Monday at McGregor Links.
“Wes played very solid,” Army golf coach Jimmy Ray Clevenger said. “This tournament gave guys an opportunity to get into consideration for our lineup at the league championships. There were some positives and negatives but more positives. Things are starting to fall into place for Patriot League’s. We will see how we do this week and get out lineup set.”
Skidmore shot a 295-305600 to win the 11-team event and also had the medalist as Sam DaSilva shot 72-62-142.
Carver, a freshman playing in his second event of the year, shot a 75 on Sunday and a 76 on Monday to finish at seven-over-par for his best career finish.
James Raymond, a sophomore, was also playing in his second event and finished 14th. Raymond shot a 77 during the first round and closed with an 81 for a two-day total of 158.
Junior Adam Renfroe was one stroke behind Raymond with a 78-81---159 and tied for 15th. Freshman Austin Rhymer was at 160 after rounds of 79-81 and finished in a tie for 18th. Sophomore Jay Twitty completed the Army squad and shot 81-94--175 to finish 52nd.
Army will play April 18-19 at the Mount St. Mary’s Invitational in Littlestown, Pa., before competing in the Patriot League Championships April 26 and 27 in Bethlehem, Pa.
