FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Army shot three shots over par over the final 18 holes to finish in seventh place at the 14-team Doc Gimmler hosted by St. John's. The Black Knights completed 54 holes at the Bethpage Red Course at six-over par.
Freshman Justin Pagila was the Black Knights' top individual finisher, shooting three straight even-par rounds of 70. Pagila Yale's Joe Willis led the Bulldogs to the team title, shooting 11-under par for the tournament. Yale was 16 shots clear of second-place Harvard, carding a team score of 20-under par.
Junior Robby Hill also finished in the top 20, shooting 69-69-73 to finish in a tie for 19th place at one-over par. Senior Brandon Baerwaldt was third among the Black Knights, shooting 69-72-73 to complete weekend play at four-over par.
Sophomore Eric Peng carded Army's low score during the final round with a career-best one-under par 69. Peng finished the tournament tied for 43rd with a 74-73-69 six-over par. Sophomore Marcus Plunkett tied for 48th, completing the 54 holes with a 71-75-71 seven-over par.
The Black Knights finished 33 shots in front of arch-rival Navy, the only other Patriot League team in the tournament. Army takes a week off before traveling to Annapolis to face the Mids in the annual Star Match. The Ryder Cup-style head-to-head event will begin Friday, Sept. 27 with the four-ball matches and conclude on Saturday with the individual matches.
