Final NCAA Regional Standings
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Army freshman Peter Kim shot a 4-over par 76 in the final round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club on Saturday. Kim finishes the 54-hole tournament with a 5-over 221 and places fourth among 10 individual competitors at the San Antonio Regional. Kim tied for 31st among the entire field of 75 golfers at the regional.
Saturday's weather conditions included 15-20 mile-per-hour winds from the south and temperatures ranging from 60 degrees in the morning to 80 degrees in the afternoon.
"Overall, it was a great tournament for [Peter]," said Army head golf coach Brian Watts. "We always say, `if you want to beat the best, you've got to compete against them.' I'm sure he's going to look back and see how he could have improved a little bit, but it's about getting better every day. This experience was good for him and he'll definitely learn from it."
As he did in Friday's second round, Kim began on the back nine for Saturday's final round. After reaching par on each of his first four holes, Kim birdied 14 to move to 1-under par for the round, but shot a bogey on holes 15, 16, 17 and 18 to drop back to 3-over par after nine holes.
The freshman got one back on No. 2, as he birdied the 434-yard hole, but slipped back to 3-over after a bogey on the fourth hole. Kim stayed at 3-over with pars on the next three holes before hitting a bogey on No. 8. Kim closed out his final round at the NCAA Regionals with four strokes to reach par on the ninth hole.
Kim's final score of 221 ranks tied for fourth among Army golfers at the NCAA Regionals, as William Park and Anthony Kim finished with a 221 in 2012 and 2011, respectively.
Texas El Paso's Martin Simonsen shot a 2-under 70 to top the individual field with a three-day score of an even-par 216. He will advance to the NCAA Championships as one of six national competitors vying for the individual title.
