BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Marcus Plunkett leads the individual field and Army stands third as the first day of the Patriot League Golf Championship was played under sunny skies at Saucon Valley Country Club.
The first 36 holes of the tournament were delayed for an hour due to frost but the later start didn't impact Plunkett who took a one-stroke lead with a one-over-par 145 total. He leads Navy's Chris House by a stroke and Lehigh's Alex DiClemente and Carlos Kim by two strokes in the 42-person field.
Army opened with a 308 in the morning and shaved seven strokes off in the afternoon session to get to 609 for the team championship. Host Lehigh is first at 595, followed by Navy (602). Bucknell is fourth (619) with Lafayette (623), Holy Cross (627) and Colgate (639) rounding out the seven-team field.
The Patriot League Championship will conclude with an 18-hole final round, Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
Plunkett began his day with an even-par round of 72 and then shot a 73 to lead the tournament. A freshman, Plunkett is seeking to become the third consecutive individual champion from Army following William Park and Matt Krembel.
