WEST POINT, N.Y. - Five Army golfers placed in the top-eight and Marcus Plunkett won the championship as the Army golf team hosted the Last Chance Classic under sunny skies at the West Point Golf Course.
Plunkett was first, one stroke in front of teammate Brandon Baerwaldt, Robby Hill tied for third, Brandon Roberts tied for sixth and Matt Philie tied for eighth at the one-day, 36-hole event.
The tournament featured 27 players with no team prizes. Golfers from Army, Columbia, Lafayette and Saint Peter's participated at the par-70, 6,053-yard layout.
Plunkett secured his first career victory after shooting a 150. His closed the event with a two-over-par 72 to earn the win.
Baerwaldt placed second by a stroke, beginning the tournament with a three-over-par 73.
Hill came in third two strokes behind Plunkett with a 152. Roberts shot consecutive 77s for a 154 for the championship.
Philie posted the best round of the event, a one-over-par 71 to help him secure a tie for eighth at 155. Harrison Florence placed 22nd following a 167.
The Last Chance Classic was the final tune-up for Army before the Patriot League Championships, scheduled for April 27 and 28 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., with the winning team earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
