STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Anthony Kim finished tied for second as the Army golf team placed ninth at the 36th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate, Sunday at Penn State’s Blue Course.
Army improved in each round, shooting 311-310-306 and held ninth spot at the 14-team event at the par-71, 7,202-yard course.
The Black Knights were one of the few teams to complete 36 holes on Friday because of frost and darkness. They took advantage of the little bit of extra sleep and closed the tournament with their best score of the event.
Bowling Green shot a 901 to win the 54-hole, 14-team event, seven strokes in front of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and 11 better than Delaware. Brad Boyle of IUP won individual honors with a 219.
Kim shot a first round 76 then closed with rounds of 74 and 72 to finish three strokes behind the leader and tied for second.
William Park also lowered his score in each round with a 78 and 76 in his final two 18s to place tied for 33rd.
Matt Philie was one stroked behind Park and tied for 39th after shooting 77-79-80.
Robby Hill had rounds of 79-81-78 and tied for 45th while Brandon Baerwaldt tied for 61st after shooting 79-79-84.
Eric Park competed as an individual and put together rounds of 78-82-88 and placed 73 rd.
Army will return to action April 14 and 15 at the Wolfpack Spring Invitational.
