West Point's superintendent delivered a scathing critique of Army football teams and Rich Ellerson's coaching run at Monday's introductory news conference for new head coach Jeff Monken.

Gen. Robert L. Caslen, named superintendent in July, talked long and fast about Army's deficiencies under Ellerson. Among Caslen's evidence was an anecdote from Army chief of staff Gen. Raymond Odierno during the Army-Navy game on Dec. 14.

"General Odierno told me that he was near the Navy coach (Ken Niumatalolo) as he was coming out of the locker room after halftime,'' Caslen said of Navy's 34-7 win, "and CBS interviewed him and asked, 'Are you worried about the weather going into the second half?' The coach said, according to General Odierno, 'Absolutely not. We've been practicing outside all week getting ready for the conditions because we knew they were going to be bad.'
