Army’s 43-7 loss to Air Force Friday night marked the second worst defeat suffered by the Black Knights in series history. The Falcons increased their lead in the overall series to 27-13-1. They have won 9 of the last 10 meetings in the series.
Army’s 43 points allowed marks the second consecutive week in which the Black Knights have yielded more than 40 points in a game. Army allowed 42 points to Tulane on October 28.
The 98-yard fumble return by Air Force’s Adam Zanotti in the first quarter was the longest fumble return in the history of Michie Stadium. Additionally, the 98-yard scamper was the longest fumble return Army has ever allowed at Michie Stadium. The previous long was an 83-yard run by VMI’s Taylor Hay on October 29, 1949. It also went for a touchdown.
Army allowed six turnovers tonight (4 interceptions, 2 fumbles lost). For the season, Army has committed the most turnovers in the country with 32 (20 interceptions, 12 fumbles lost). Army has allowed 99 points off of those 32 turnovers. For the season, Army has allowed 268 total points, of which 36.9% have been from the 32 turnovers.
Army has committed at least one turnover in each game this season. The Black Knights committed a season-high six turnovers against Air Force with the four interceptions also representing a season-high.
The last time Army had an opponent return a fumble for a touchdown was Shannon James of Massachusetts, who scooped up a fumble on November 12, 2005, and rumbled 36 yards at Michie Stadium.
The last time Army allowed a safety was on December 7, 2002, against Navy when quarterback Reggie Nevels and Army were penalized for intentional grounding in the end zone at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Tony Moore rushed the ball 10 times for a career-high 89 yards. His previous career best of 63 yards rushing came against VMI on October 7. He also set a career-high with a long rush of 58 yards, eclipsing his old personal high of 16 yards against Baylor on September 23. Moore also caught two passes for 40 yards, setting a new personal high of 129 all-purpose yards. His previous high was 92 yards against Baylor.
Corey Anderson caught a 15-yard pass for a touchdown from David Pevoto in the fourth quarter. It was his first receiving touchdown of the season, and his third overall.
