Army at Tulane Postgame Notes (10-28-06)

Saturday’s contest between Army and Tulane marked the 14th time the two teams have met, and the fifth time the squads have battled at the Louisiana Superdome. Tulane’s 42-28 victory is its third straight over Army, and the Green Wave now leads the all-time series, 8-5-1. Tulane has won four of the five all-time matchups at the Superdome.

Tulane’s 42-28 victory over Army drops the Black Knights’ record to 1-7-1 in games played in the state of Louisiana.

With today’s 42-28 setback to Tulane, Army’s is now 12-35-2 all-time versus opponents that currently hold Conference USA membership. Army head coach Bobby Ross’ record versus current Conference USA teams falls to 0-11.

With today’s 42-28 loss to Tulane, Army’s all-time record in domed stadiums falls to 2-9. Earlier this year, Army lost to Texas A&M, 28-24, at San Antonio’s Alamodome. This season is the first in Army football history that the team has played two games in domed stadiums in the same year.

Army QB Carson Williams made his first career start.

Carson Williams’ 16-yard touchdown pass to WR Walter Hill in the third quarter marked his first career touchdown pass. The play also represented Hill’s first touchdown reception of the season, and the fourth touchdown reception of his career.

Carson Williams’ 71-yard touchdown pass to TE Tim Dunn marked Dunn’s first career touchdown reception. The play also marked the longest play of the season for Army. It marked the longest completion of Williams’ career as well as the longest reception of Dunn’s career.

Carson Williams threw three touchdown passes today. It marked the first time that an Army quarterback has thrown three touchdown passes in a game since Zac Dahman tossed three touchdowns against Navy on Dec. 3, 2005.

Carson Williams set new career highs in completions (16), attempts (24), yards (194) and touchdowns (3).

Tim Dunn established career highs with 113 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. It marked his first career 100-yard receiving game.

Army WR Jeremy Trimble made five receptions today, moving the junior into third place on the Black Knights’ all-time receptions list with 100 career catches.

With three receptions, Walter Hill took over sole possession of eighth place on the school’s all-time receptions list with 83 career catches.

Army’s 60-yard scoring drive in the second quarter marked the longest scoring drive for Army on the season in terms of both plays (15) and time of possession (8:48).

Army DE Victor Ugenyi Jr. and Army DB Josh Mitchell made their first career starts.

Tulane QB Lester Ricard completed 33 of 43 passes for 409 yards. Ricard is the first quarterback to complete more than 30 passes in a game against Army since Cincinnati’s Gino Guidugli completed 31 against the Black Knights on Sept. 8, 2001. Ricard is the first quarterback to throw for more than 400 yards in a game against Army since Louisville’s Stefan LeFors passed for 406 yards against the Black Knights on Oct. 13, 2003.

Army freshman WR Damion Hunter saw his first career action, returning kickoffs for the Black Knights.

Austin Miller tied his career high with two made field goals today. He has converted his last seven field goal attempts, and has now connected on 11 of 14 field goals on the year.

With two field goals today, Austin Miller moves into a tie for ninth place on the school’s all-time field goals made chart with 15 career field goals.

Victor Ugenyi Jr. blocked an extra point attempt in the third quarter. It marked the first career blocked kick for Ugenyi Jr.

Army DT Tony Fusco blocked two extra points during the fourth quarter. Fusco has now blocked four kicks on the season for Fusco, and five in his career.

With three blocked extra points today, Army has now blocked five placekicks this season.
