WEST POINT, N.Y. – Football’s Terry Baggett and golf’s Marcus Plunkett have been honored as the Army Athletic Association Co-Athletes of the Week for their respective performances. Baggett helped the Black Knights to a win over Louisiana Tech, while Plunkett scored two points in Army’s match-play win versus arch-rival Navy.
Baggett led Army’s ground attack that racked up a season-best 414 yards with a career-best 143 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. The Chicago native averaged 7.9 yards per rush and boasted Army’s longest play of the day, a 25-yard jaunt. It was Baggett’s second 100-yard outing of the season and the third of his career.
Plunkett helped the Black Knights to a 7.5-3.5 victory over the Mids in the annual Star Match. He teamed with Harrison Florence for a 3 and 1 victory in Saturday’s four-ball match and then clinched Army’s team victory with a 3 and 2 win in his individual match Sunday. In his two Star Matches, Plunkett is unbeaten, going 2-0 in both four ball and individual match play. Army has now won back-to-back stars for the first time since 2004-05.
The football team is back on the road Saturday afternoon at Boston College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed online live by ESPN3. The golf team hosts the Stars and Stripes Invitational at the West Point Golf Course. The first two rounds are Sunday with the final round teeing off Monday morning.
