WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army running back Terry Baggett and kicker Daniel Grochowski have been named the Football Bowl Subdivision Independent Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week for their efforts against Wake Forest. It is Baggett’s first career honor, while Grochowski has claimed the award for the second time in as many weeks.
Baggett had a career day versus the Demon Deacons with 16 rushes for 125 yards. It was his second career 100-yard effort. His 51-yard run and 22-yard reception were also career bests. For the season, the Chicago native is second on the team with 258 rushing yards. His 8.32 yards per rush ranks eighth in the nation among players with at least 30 rushing attempts.
In addition to the FBS Independent honor, Grochowski also earned honorable mention accolades from the College Football Performance Awards. He accounted for nine points versus Wake Forest, drilling all three of his field goal tries (39 yards, 32 yards, 32 yards). He also recorded three touchbacks on his four kickoffs. Grochowski has now made five consecutive field goals during the last two weeks.
Army has claimed four FBS Independent Player of the Week certificates this season. In addition to Baggett and Grochowski, junior free safety Geoffery Bacon was the defensive winner following the Black Knights’ win over Morgan State.
The Black Knights are on the road for the next two weeks. Army plays Louisiana Tech at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas in the inaugural Heart of Dallas Classic before traveling to Boston College on Oct. 5. The Black Knights return home on Oct. 12 to face Eastern Michigan.
