WEST POINT, N.Y. - Following eight consecutive days of practice, including three in full pads, the Army football team did not practice Friday morning.
Head coach Rich Ellerson made the decision Thursday evening to scrap Friday's practice.
While the Black Knights didn't head out into the rain on Friday morning, the team did have an extra rest period and participated in meetings and walk-throughs.
Army will return to the field Saturday and practice in shoulder pads and helmets in preparations for Sunday's scrimmage. Sunday's scrimmage will be held at Foley Athletic Center.
The Black Knights held their first practice on August 1 and worked out each morning at 7:20 a.m. before Friday's cancellation.
Army will work out in shells on Saturday with the focus on Sunday's scrimmage ... Sunday's scrimmage is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Foley Center and will follow a format similar to the Spring Game ... Both the offense and defense will be put into different situations with scoring based on the scenario ... The squad will be broken into Black and Gold groups with nine different situations.
Army's 2013 home football schedule will feature a bevy of promotions and recognitions during each of the five games at Michie Stadium. The Black Knights begin the season Friday, August 30 versus Morgan State. The Black Knights are also slated for home games versus Stanford (Sept. 14), Wake Forest (Sept. 21), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 12) and Western Kentucky (Nov. 9).
