WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army football program announced that its 2014 season-opening game against Buffalo on Sept. 6 will highlight Army Strong Day at West Point. Army Strong Day is an opportunity for the Army community to join Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. Ray Odierno, as the team takes the field for the first time under new head coach Jeff Monken for a noon kickoff at historic Michie Stadium.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to play in front those defending our freedoms and excited to help raise awareness for the Army,” said Monken. “From the cadet review to Black Knights Alley to the action on the field to the singing of the alma mater after the game, West Point is one of the great places in the country to see college football. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Michie Stadium.”
In addition to the game, fans can experience the Cadet Review at 9 am on The Plain where military vehicles, aircraft and hardware from 16 branches of the Army will be on display as part of the annual Branch Week. Each of the branches sets up static displays of their equipment and provides Soldiers from the field to educate cadets about the mission, capabilities and opportunities once commissioned as a leader of character in the U.S. Army.
Additionally, Black Knights Alley will open three hours prior to kickoff where fans of any age can enjoy live music, face painting, autograph opportunities, inflatable playgrounds, food vendors and Army inspired exhibits. Fans will also be able to witness a pregame parachute demonstration as the cadets of the parachute team land on the 50 yard line inside Michie Stadium.
