WEST POINT, N.Y. - For the second straight season, the Army men's basketball team will begin its season by participating in the All-Military Classic. This year's edition will be contested in Charleston, S.C. and hosted by The Citadel.
Army begins tournament play on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. against service-academy rival Air Force. VMI and the host Bulldogs will square off at 4 p.m. The consolation game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m., while the championship contest will follow at 4 p.m.
The Falcons captured the inaugural championship last season, defeating Army and VMI. The Black Knights and Falcons have met just four times on the hardwood, splitting the all-time series. Last year's season opener marked the first meeting since the 1987-88 season. Army has faced The Citadel eight previous times, the most recent in the 2006-07 season in Charleston. VMI is the Black Knights' most common opponent of the group with the Black Kngihts holding a 6-4 all-time advantage. The last meeting was the debut of Army head coach Zach Spiker to start the 2009-10 season.
The Black Knights return four starters from last year's squad, including first-team All-Patriot League performer Ella Ellis who averaged a team-high 17.5 points per game. League all-rookie pick Maxwell Lenox is also back for the 2012-13 season after leading the team with 96 assists. Josh Herbeck returns for his junior campaign after knocking down a team-high 75 three-pointers in 30 games last season.
