WEST POINT, N.Y. - Men's basketball standout Ella Ellis has been honored as the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Black Knights' two games last week, including a win at Navy.
Ellis averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in Army's two games. He led the team with 18 points at Lafayette and scored a team-high 19 in the Black Knights' 75-62 win over the Mids on Saturday. Ellis shot 41.7 percent from three-point range and knocked down all 14 free throws he took in the two games.
Army's win in Annapolis snapped its 10-game losing streak against Patriot League opponents and a seven-game road losing skid against conference foes. It was Army's first win at Alumni Hall since 2008.
Ellis is Army's leading scorer at 17.8 points per game, the third-best average in the Patriot League. He has scored in double figures in all 18 games this season and owns a career-high streak of 20 straight outings with at least 10 points.
The Black Knights will try to win back-to-back league games for the first time since 2009 when they host Colgate on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Tip-off at Christl Arena is set for 7 p.m.
