Diary Entries

Catcher Schuyler Williamson enters his junior season with Army with high expectations. Last season, Williamson enjoyed a “breakout” campaign in which he batted .299 with seven doubles, three triples, five home runs and 28 runs batted in. This season, he is co-captain of the Black Knights and is leading the team from behind the plate. Be sure to check back often as Williamson will share his thoughts about the team's progress and whatever else is on his mind throughout the 2004 season.

This season is really turning out to be a great success. We have had a lot of fun, and our confidence continues to grow every day. With every win we become better, not only because we execute the plays like we should, but in those times that we used to be nervous we are now confident. There is not a hole in our line-up. Every batter, 1-9, has hit the ball well this year, and always seems to get the job done. A prime example is during yesterday's game we scored four runs and batted around in the first inning while registering only one hit. Only a team that executes offensively and puts pressure on a defense can do that. Things like that are going more and more our way, it seems, recently.

We need three wins to clinch the Patriot League regular season championship, but this is only our short term goal. We would, of course, like to win every game from here on out including the Patriot League Playoffs on May 8th and 9th. Those are two goals we set at the beginning of the year: to win the Patriot League and to win more than 26 games during the season. Both of these goals are in sight now as the season comes to an end.

I think being a part of the NCAAs is a part of every young players dreams. I have looked forward to this since I was a kid, and I know the rest of my teammates feel the same way. This dream can come true as long as we stay focused and on track. Our mindset is so important for every game, and this continues to be a huge part of our success. I talked of consistency earlier this year and how it plays a huge role in the type of team we are. Consistency includes leadership and our level of play and commitment to the game. Up to this point in the season, and especially recently, I think we have done a good job of this.

The rest of this year is going to be fun to watch… I promise. The team is driven by such a desire to succeed that nothing is going to phase us. Our winning streak stands at 14 games right now, but I predict it is going to go a lot farther than that.
