Diary Entries

Catcher Schuyler Williamson enters his junior season with Army with high expectations. Last season, Williamson enjoyed a “breakout” campaign in which he batted .299 with seven doubles, three triples, five home runs and 28 runs batted in. This season, he is co-captain of the Black Knights and is leading the team from behind the plate. Be sure to check back often as Williamson will share his thoughts about the team's progress and whatever else is on his mind throughout the 2004 season.

April 8, 2004

This has been a great week for our team. We increased our winning streak to nine games, and beat another team, Marist, that we were not supposed to beat. We also found out that we are ranked 14th in the Northeast poll with our record of 19-9. Morale is really high on the team right now, and we feel like we can beat anyone. We are making big plays when we need to, and players are doing the little things to win.

This weekend we play Bucknell and the series will be very instrumental in deciding the Patriot League’s regular-season championship. This is what we have been waiting for all season long. Bucknell won the league and moved on to the NCAAs last year. This year we are a different team. We have a new focus and mindset that has contributed to our success, and we feel it is strong enough to overcome any adversity. Bucknell is a well-rounded team, adding a solid offense to a good defense. But if we stick to our game plan and perform the way we know how, I think things could go well for us.

We are having a lot more fun this year because of the success. The attitude of the players has to be the biggest change -- going from trying not to lose, to knowing we can win. Another great thing we have going for us is the fans that come to every game. Finally, after two years we are strong enough as a team to have people wanting to come out and watch us play. It is so nice to look up and see people as confident in us as we are in ourselves. This weekend is big for us.
