OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - More than three weeks after he threw his final pitch in an Army uniform, former Black Knight standout Chris Rowley was recognized as a Senior CLASS Award All-American, it was announced by the organization on Monday.

Rowley, who was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army last month and signed a free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays farm system last week, was named a first-team Senior CLASS Award All-American. He is just the second Army baseball player to be recognized by the organization, which annually honors senior student-athletes with notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Zach Price (USMA '12) was honored with second-team laurels last season, while Rowley is the first Black Knight to collect first-team plaudits.

Rowley, who was a finalist for the prestigious award, excelled in all four areas during his time at West Point. He graduated from the Academy ranked third on Army's all-time wins list (25), fourth on the Black Knights' all-time strikeouts ledger (216), second in career innings pitched (277.0) and fifth in all-time winning percentage (.735; 25-9). Rowley also ranks as Army's all-time leader with eight career shutouts.

Rowley (9-4, 2.67 ERA) established an Army single-season record with 97.2 innings pitched this season, while his nine victories in 2013 rank tied for fifth on the Academy's single-season ledger. He was named to the All-Patriot League first team for the second year in a row this spring after leading the conference in nearly every statistical category.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
