Senior catcher J.T. Watkins will take Army baseball fans on a journey throughout the 2012 season through his blog Behind the Plate. Watkins, who is serving as one of the Black Knights' co-captains this year, is a two-time All-Patriot League selection. Check back weekly to follow along with the inside happenings of the Army baseball team.
Today we had practice over at UVA followed by the radio show in the hotel lobby. Although we play at 11 a.m. tomorrow, our team is used to getting to the ballpark early in the morning. It is postseason baseball, and this is what we've been waiting for all year. This is an exciting time of year for all of college baseball and for our team it's the same.
All that's left to do now is to go out and play. This will be a tough regional no doubt; Virginia, Oklahoma and Appalachian State are all great teams, but in the postseason it's anybody's game. We saw that a few years back with Fresno State winning the national title in Omaha. Nobody expected them to do what they did, but they went out and did it.
I was asked earlier today about the difference between the Austin Regional and this year's regional here in Virginia, and up to now there haven't been many things that aren't the same. Team meals, radio shows, practice at the host site and friends and family from around the country are common during these times. Let's go get it.
