CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Thursday was an eventful day for the Army baseball program as the Black Knights held their official practice at Virginia's Davenport Field.
The 75-minute training session featured batting practice and some individual work. Head coach Joe Sottolano threw batting practice and provided instruction throughout. Associate head coach Matt Reid threw batting practice in the cages beneath the stadium, while assistant coach Maj. Bryan Price hit groundballs to infielders. Assistant coach Anthony DeCiccospent most of his time in the bullpen, working with the Black Knights' pitchers.
Following the practice, Virginia products Gunnar Carroll and Dakari Cooke joined Chris Rowley in conducting a few brief interviews with local media. Alex Jensenalso spent a few minutes with Army assistant athletic director Rich DeMarco for an interview that can be seen on the Black Knights' official website (www.goARMYsports.com).
Following the media opportunity, the players and coaches changed into their white uniforms for a team photo in short right field with the massive scoreboard serving as a fitting backdrop.
Sottolano then joined the other three head coaches for a pre-tournament press conference. The Army mentor answered several questions, before taking part in the pre-tournament administrative meeting. After returning to the hotel, the players and coaches ventured out to find dinner.
