Army junior first baseman Patrick Mescher was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, it was announced by conference officials Tuesday afternoon.
Mescher finished the regular season ranked third in the Patriot League in batting average (.347) and RBI (35), while listing fifth in the conference in on-base percentage (.435). The Versailles, Ohio, native also ranks among Army's leaders in runs scored (31), slugging percentage (.413), doubles (four), stolen bases (nine) and walks (18).
Mescher was even better against conference foes, batting .373 with 15 RBI during Patriot League competition. Three of his four doubles and both of his home runs came against league rivals.
One of 11 Patriot League baseball student-athletes named to the prestigious unit, Mescher also excels in the classroom. The third-year Life Sciences major maintains a 3.546 grade-point average, and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll each of the last two seasons.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his or her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for the honor.
Army returns to action on Saturday, May 11, when the third-seeded Black Knights travel to Annapolis, Md., to battle second-seeded Navy in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. The best-of-three series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.
