Lee & Cooke Earn Patriot League Weekly Awards

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After helping Army sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Bloomfield last Saturday, a pair of Black Knights were honored with Patriot League weekly awards on Monday.

Senior LHP Logan Lee, who pitched five scoreless innings in Army's 7-1 victory over the Deacons in the nightcap of Saturday's twinbill, was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season. Freshman OF Dakari Cooke, meanwhile, was selected as the conference's Rookie of the Week after sparking the Black Knights' offensive explosion.

Army players dominated the Patriot League's weekly awards this season, winning 19 of a possible 36 weekly honors (52.8 percent). The Black Knights set Patriot League records with eight Pitcher of the Week awards and eight Rookie of the Week certificates. Army players have also won the loop's Player of the Week accolades three times.

Lee (6-2) picked up the win in the second game of Army's doubleheader sweep as the fourth-year hurler scattered four hits over five scoreless frames. The Laguna Niguel, Calif., native struck out five, did not walk a batter and faced just three over the minimum en route to the victory. It marks the fifth weekly pitching award of Lee's career.

Cooke, who becomes the fifth different Army freshman to earn the circuit's weekly rookie honor, batted .833 (5-for-6) with three runs batted in and three runs scored to help ignite Army's offensive onslaught against Bloomfield. The Hampton, Va., native erupted at the plate in the Black Knights' 11-5 victory in the first game, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Cooke finished 1-for-2 with a walk, one run scored and an RBI in the second contest.

Kevin McKague was selected to the Patriot League's list of honorable mentions. The senior first baseman batted .714 (5-for-7) over the two games with five runs batted in and three runs scored. He was 3-for-4 with three RBI in the first game, before going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBI in the nightcap.

Army (37-12) will return to action this weekend (May 12-13) when the top-seeded Black Knights host fourth-seeded Lafayette (14-35-1) in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
