Army Welcomes Bloomfield To West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army baseball team returns to action on Saturday, May 5, when the Black Knights host Bloomfield in a non-league doubleheader. The twinbill, which will feature a pair of nine inning games, is slated to get under way at 12 p.m.

Fans that are unable to make the trip to West Point on Saturday can follow the action via GameTracker by logging onto Army's official athletics website ( and navigating to the baseball schedule page. Army (35-12) has lost three of its last five games after winning nine straight. The Black Knights, who split a four-game series with Holy Cross last weekend, are closing in on the first 40-win season in program history. Army, which boasts an 18-2 home record in 2012, received votes in both of the major national polls for the sixth week in a row.

Bloomfield (21-17) has lost six of its last seven games following Thursday's 10-3 setback at American International College. The Deacons will host Nyack College in a single game Friday evening before traveling up the Hudson River to face Army on Saturday.

Army has been led this season by its pitching staff that shows a 3.20 team ERA. Ten Black Knight hurlers currently boast earned run averages below 4.00.

Junior RHP Chris Rowley (10-0, 1.10 ERA) headlines Army's starting rotation as the third-year performer leads the nation in wins and WHIP (0.66), while ranking second in the country in earned run average and hits allowed per nine innings (4.52).

Army senior LHP Logan Lee (5-2, 3.90 ERA), sophomore LHP Nick Dignacco (6-2, 3.34 ERA) and freshman RHP Alex Robinett (3-1, 2.61 ERA) round out the Black Knights' weekend rotation, and all boast earned run averages below 4.00.

Senior INF Kevin McKague continues to spearhead Army's offense with a .371 batting average, 13 doubles, four home runs, 36 runs batted in and a .521 slugging percentage. He also leads the team with a .473 on-base-percentage, while listing among the Black Knights' leaders with 29 runs scored, 21 walks and nine stolen bases.

Freshman INF Harold Earls leads Army with 18 stolen bases, ranks second with a .347 batting average and a .436 on-base percentage, and lists third with 22 walks. Senior INF Zach Price, who is third on the squad with a .320 batting average, leads the Patriot League with 41 runs scored, tops the team with three triples and ranks second on the club with 24 walks and 13 stolen bases.

Senior OF Emilio Fernandez leads the Bloomfield offense with a .380 batting average, eight doubles, three triples and 23 runs batted in. Senior INF Rafael Medina, who is batting .311, tops the Deacons with seven home runs and 37 RBI.

Junior RHP Luis Nova boasts some of Bloomfield's best pitching statistics this season. He has authored a 6-2 record to go along with a 2.10 earned run average and 41 strikeouts in nine starts. Freshman RHP Francesco Scudiero (7-2, 2.01 ERA) ranks third on the team with 32 strikeouts. Senior LHP Eric Kamp, who leads the Deacons with 16 appearances, tops Bloomfield's bullpen with five saves.

Army and Bloomfield have never met on the baseball diamond.

Saturday's doubleheader versus Bloomfield will serve as Army's final tune-up before opening the Patriot League Tournament against Lafayette over the weekend of May 12-13. The top-seeded Black Knights will host the fourth-seeded Leopards in a best-of-three series at West Point.
