CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Army senior right-handed pitcher Chris Rowley was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing a six-hit shutout in the Black Knights' 1-0 victory at Lehigh in the series opener last Saturday.
Rowley struck out nine batters and only issued a pair of walks en route to his first complete-game shutout of the season. He outpitched Lehigh starter Colin Gotzon in a classic pitcher's duel between opposing aces, and Army scored the only run of the contest in the top of the sixth inning to post the victory.
It marks the first Pitcher of the Week award this season for Rowley, who has collected the honor six times over the course of his career. He is now just two awards shy of equaling Army's Nick Hill (USMA '07) for the most career Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Rowley (3-3, 3.30 ERA) currently ranks fourth in the Patriot League in earned run average and wins, fifth in strikeouts (37) and innings pitched (43.2) and 13th in opposing batting average (.298).
Army returns to action on Wednesday, April 10, when the Black Knights host Fordham at 3:30 p.m.
