Army Set To Embark On Annual Spring Break Trip

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army baseball team will travel to Florida for its annual spring break trip as the Black Knights make the trek to the Sunshine State for seven games. Army opens its sojourn with a three-game series versus Yale (March 9-10).

The Black Knights are also scheduled to face Indiana (March 12) and Miami (Ohio) (March 14), before wrapping up their trip with a split doubleheader against North Dakota State and Dartmouth (March 16).

Black Knight fans that cannot make the trek to Florida will be able to follow all of the action through Twitter updates that will be posted via the official handle of Army baseball (@Army_Baseball). Live stats for several of the games will also be offered by logging onto the Black Knights' official athletics website ( and navigating to the baseball schedule page.

Army (0-7) begins the weekend still searching for its first win of the young season. The Black Knights most recently dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker in 11 innings to Liberty. Junior Jon Crucitti leads the team with a .389 batting average, six runs scored and a .607 on-base percentage. Junior Patrick Mescher, who lists second on the club with a .318 batting average, tops the squad with four runs batted in.

Sophomore Alex Robinett (0-1, 4.60 ERA) paces the Black Knights pitching staff with three starts and 15.2 innings pitched. Junior Gunnar Carroll (0-2, 4.50 ERA) leads Army's bullpen with three relief appearances.

Yale will open its 2013 season Saturday against Army. Indiana boasts a 6-2 record. The Hoosiers will face Florida in a three-game series (March 8-10) before battling the Black Knights. Miami (Ohio) shows a 2-6 mark, North Dakota State is 4-5, while Dartmouth brings a perfect 3-0 mark to Florida.

After returning from Florida, Army will begin a 10-game homestand on Wednesday, March 20, when the Black Knights host Quinnipiac at Doubleday Field. First pitch for the home opener is slated for 3 p.m.
