WEST POINT, N.Y. - After dropping a pair of games to UNC Greensboro last weekend, the Army baseball team will make the long trek to Rock Hill, S.C., this weekend (Feb. 22-24) to compete in the Coca-Cola Classic hosted by Winthrop University.
Army opens the three-day event with a game against Eastern Kentucky on Friday at 12 p.m. The Black Knights are also scheduled to face Winthrop on Saturday (4 p.m.) and Delaware State on Sunday (11 a.m.).
Those fans unable to make the trip to Rock Hill will be able to follow along with live stats for each of Army's games by logging onto Winthrop's official athletics website (www.winthropeagles.com). A live audio streamed broadcast of the Army-Winthrop contest on Saturday will also be offered by Winthrop. Twitter updates will also be provided via the official handle of the Black Knights (@Army_Baseball).
Army (0-2) opened its 2013 campaign last weekend against UNC Greensboro. The Black Knights lost a pair of three-run games against the Spartans, suffering a 7-4 setback in the series opener last Friday and falling 8-5 in the finale on Sunday. The middle-game of the three-game set was canceled due to winter weather conditions.
Eastern Kentucky (1-3) dropped two of three games to Charleston Southern last weekend, before falling to Louisville on Wednesday. The Colonels have allowed 17 runs in two of their first four games.
Winthrop (1-2) split a pair of games with Maryland Eastern Shore last weekend, before losing to The Citadel, 6-4, on Wednesday. All three of the Eagles' games have been decided by three runs or less.
Delaware State enters this weekend's action with a 0-1 record after dropping its season opener to UNC Charlotte (13-7) last Friday. The remainder of the Hornets' four-game series versus the 49ers was canceled due to snow.
