Senior catcher J.T. Watkins will take Army baseball fans on a journey throughout the 2012 season through his blog Behind the Plate. Watkins, who is serving as one of the Black Knights' co-captains this year, was an All-Patriot League selection last season. Check back weekly to follow along with the inside happenings of the Army baseball team.

After months of preparing for a new season, it's finally here: opening weekend across the country for college baseball. To say we are excited doesn't do it justice. It's an understatement for not only the players, but also the fans, families, and coaches of their respective teams. For our team, this is no exception. With the support of the Army Baseball Family and fans, we plan to go to High Point and play hard against a great Panther club down in Carolina. They've got plenty of experience with a lot of guys who started their careers in junior college baseball and were very successful.

We have put in our fair share of work with strength and conditioning coach Justin Thiel. Hard work is something we have taken pride in as a club since day one, and this year's team is no exception. Coach Thiel has pushed us hard every day no matter what, and I know our team will benefit from those experiences especially late in the season when it matters most.

The young guys on the team are very passionate about the game and playing it the right way. From taking extra cuts in the cages to putting in extra work off the field in the weight room, we've made improvements that many will see by the end of the season. This weekend will be the beginning of a special season for Army Baseball.

Here we go,
