CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Corey Dick and Matt Keeler combined to go 6-for-8 with three RBI and three runs scored as second-seeded UNC Wilmington defeated fourth-seeded Army, 9-5, in an elimination game at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional Saturday afternoon at Virginia's Davenport Field.

Dick went 3-for-4 with a home run and double, while Keeler finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Seahawks, who banged out 16 hits in the contest. UNCW (38-22) advances to face the loser of the Virginia-Elon contest in another elimination game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Mark McCants was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored for Army, which finishes its season with a 29-23 overall record. Alex Jensenwent 1-for-3 with two runs scored for the Black Knights.

UNC Wilmington took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as the Seahawks pushed across three runs on four hits. Luke Dunlap, Tyler Molinaro and Keeler provided RBI singles to help UNCW grab the early advantage.

Army put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the first, plating an unearned run to trim UNCW's lead to 3-1. Jensen singled up the middle with two outs and advanced to second base when McCants dumped a base hit into right field. Patrick Mescherthen reached on an infield single, and Jensen scored when the Seahawks' shortstop threw the ball away.

UNCW extended its lead to 5-1 in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs on three hits. Molinaro's second RBI single of the game chased Army starter Alex Robinett (7-4) from the contest after just 1.2 innings, and Ryan LaGrange greeted Black Knight reliever Gunnar Carrollwith an RBI single of his own.

The Seahawks made it 6-1 in the top of the third as Dick led off the frame by launching a towering home run over the fence in right field.

UNCW continued to add to its lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on three hits and one Army error to establish a 9-1 cushion. Molinaro walked, advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a passed ball to make it 7-1. Dick and Keller then ripped back-to-back doubles to plate the second run of the inning, and Drew Farber's RBI single capped the rally.

Army trimmed the Seahawks' lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning on Grant Van Orden's sacrifice fly. Andrew Johnson and Dakari Cookedrew back-to-back walks to begin the uprising, and after executing a double-steal, Johnson scored from third base when Van Orden lofted a fly ball to right field.

The Black Knights continued to chip away at UNCW's advantage in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits to make it 9-5. Harold Earlshammered a double over the left fielder's head leading off the inning and Jensen walked to put runners on first and second. Earls scored and Jensen advanced to third base on a balk, and McCants grounded an RBI single through the right side. After back-to-back groundouts moved McCants to third base, Johnson came through with a two-out single to right field to deliver the third run of the frame.

Army threatened again in the seventh and innings, but the Black Knights were unable to get any closer.

Christian MacDonald (5-1) picked up the win for UNCW after tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Kelly Secrest worked a scoreless ninth to earn his eighth save of the year.

Robinett was touched for five runs on six hits in his shortest outing of the season.

Game Notes: Army and UNC Wilmington met for the first time today ... the Black Knights slip to 3-12 all-time in NCAA Regional games ... Patrick Mescher's first-inning single extended his hitting streak to nine straight games ... Army relievers Brock Davidson, Brian Hapeman and Jack Verrill combined to pitch 5.1 scoreless innings ... the trio allowed just four hits ... Hapeman lowered his earned run average to 1.69.
