Army 5, Lafayette 3
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Brock Davidson knocked in three runs with two doubles and two runs scored on errors as Army posted a 5-3 victory over Lafayette, Sunday in the first game of a Patriot League doubleheader at Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium.
Army won its fourth straight game and improved to 19-9 overall and 4-2 in league contests. Lafayette moved to 7-15 and 1-4.
Davidson and Kris Lindner each had two hits for the Black Knights.
Gunnar Carroll picked up the win for Army, throwing six innings to improve to 5-1. He allowed five hits, three runs and struck out seven with just one walk.
Johnny Griffith threw a scoreless the seventh for his team-leading third save.
Carroll started strong, collecting strikeouts for five of the first six outs, including the side in the second.
Lafayette pushed a run across in the third. With two outs, Andrew Santomauro and Jackson Kramer hit back-to-back doubles for a 1-0 advantage.
The Leopards added two more runs in the fourth inning, scoring with two outs as Michael Coniglio and Santomauro recorded run-scoring singles for a 3-0 lead.
Army answered in the fourth inning. Lindner singled and Alex Jensen was hit by a pitch. Davidson followed with a double down the line in right field to clear the bases. Connor Love reached on a two-base error to score Davidson. One out later, Harold Earls walked and Mark McCants reached on an error to put Army on top, 4-3.
Davidson collected his third RBI in the fifth inning. Lindner led off with a single and stole second. Davidson then blasted a line drive to left-center and hustled to beat the throw to second and give Army a 5-3 margin.
Army will play at Fordham Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then return to Doubleday Field to host Bucknell on Saturday and Sunday for four Patriot League contests. Saturday's games will begin at noon, while Sunday is set for 1 p.m. start.
