WEST POINT, N.Y. - Tim Giel pitched a complete game, and Nick Ferraresi smashed a pair of home runs to help lift Columbia past Army, 5-1, in a non-league baseball game Saturday afternoon at Doubleday Field.

Ferraresi finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Lions (5-11) won their third straight game. Giel (1-1) scattered nine hits over nine innings, struck out four and did not walk a batter. Mike Fischer finished with two hits, and Nick Crucet posted two RBI to help aid Columbia's nine-hit attack.

Army starter Brock Davidson (1-2) struck out a career-high six batters and did not issue a walk over seven innings, but was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits. Alex Jensen, Harold Earls and Connor Love each contributed two hits apiece to pace the Black Knights (5-11), who finished with nine hits.

Columbia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on Crucet's two-run double. Aaron Silbar was hit by a pitch with one out and he advanced to third base on Fischer's two-out double. Crucet followed with a double of his own, scoring both Silbar and Fischer.

Ferraresi led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field to extend Columbia's lead to 3-0. The Lions' right fielder then hammered a two-run blast to left field in the sixth inning to make it 5-0.

Army got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning as Jacob Page, Michael Sands and Love hit consecutive singles. Giel was able to limit the damage in that frame and then worked out of trouble in the eighth inning to preserve Columbia's lead.

Army wraps up its first home weekend of the season on Sunday, March 24, when the Black Knights host NYIT at 2 p.m.
