BALTIMORE, Md. - Army scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning, and the Black Knights turned a triple play in the bottom of the frame take a 5-3 decision from UMBC in the completion of Friday's suspended game on Saturday at Baseball Factory Field.

Army (4-3) trailed 3-2 in the seventh inning yesterday, before rallying to tie the score on Kevin McKague's RBI single. The game was then suspended by the umpires as rain pelted the playing surface.

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Black Knights pushed across a pair of runs without the aid of a base hit in the top of the 10th to take a 5-3 advantage.

Daniel Cortes reached on an error leading off the inning, and McKague was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Connor Love then laid down a sacrifice bunt, and J.T. Watkins was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Harold Earls then hit a tailor-made double-play ball to the shortstop, but UMBC wasn't able to turn it, allowing Cortes to score from third with the go-ahead run. McKague and Earls then executed a double-steal to make it 5-3.

UMBC (0-5) made it interesting in the bottom of the 10th as Rob McCabe and Tom Gilchrist hit consecutive singles leading off the inning. Max Himmelstein then ripped a line drive into left field that was caught by Cortes. McCabe and Gilchrist, who were both running on the crack of the bat, were both easily doubled off to end the game.

Manny Fernandez (2-0), who tossed a scoreless seventh inning yesterday, pitched the eighth and ninth frames to pick up his second win of the season. Gunnar Carroll earned his first save of the year after working around two 10th inning singles. Steve Miller (0-1) yielded two unearned runs on one hit in three innings of work and was saddled with the loss.

Army and UMBC will play the second game of the three-game series later this evening, with Sunday's series finale scheduled for 12 p.m.
