WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Postseason continues on Friday for Army cross country when the Black Knights travel to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y., for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. Hosted by Manhattan College, Army will be looking to earn bids into the NCAA Championships by finishing among the top-two teams in both the men’s and women’s races. The men’s 10K will kick off the day at 11:45 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K at 1 p.m.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. In addition to the two automatic qualifiers out of each of the nine regional meets, 13 teams will receive at-large invitations into the 31-team fields.

Friday’s Regional Championship races will feature four nationally ranked women’s programs and five of the top men’s teams. Providence leads the way for the women, ranked No. 2 among all Division I programs as well as 21st on the men’s side. Other ranked women’s teams include No. 12 Dartmouth, No. 19 Syracuse and No. 27 Harvard. Syracuse (14) and Dartmouth (26) also stand among the leaders on the men’s side. The top-ranked team on the men’s side is Iona, who was listed at No. 7 in the latest report, followed by No. 8 Columbia.

The Friars and Connecticut earned the automatic berths out of last season’s women’s competition, while Iona and Columbia earned the bids on the men’s side.

Four Black Knights earned All-Patriot League certificates, including first-team honors by seniors Kendall Ward and Ricardo Galindo. Fellow firstie Josh Ecker was named to the second team, as was sophomore Madison Hill.

Ward received more good news this week when he was voted the Patriot League Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The economics major from Highland Falls, N.Y., carries a 3.959 grade point average, and was joined on the Academic All-League team by Galindo and Hill.
